云燕铭同志是同代旦角佼佼者之一。她出身梨园世家,自幼学艺,会戏多,戏路宽,而且才情独具,锦心妙手,善于独创。在京剧舞台上,表演艺术家们的技艺,各有巧妙,然而,能用真功演出真情、活人,从而达到表演极致的,则很不容易,而且,京剧程式严格,高度规范,表演容易流于匠气。云燕铭的表演艺术,正是在表现活人和真情上,臻于上乘,达到妙境。她工旦行,以做戏见长,表演细腻传神,新颖别致,又美又媚,唱腔柔婉动听,感人肺腑。她虽然是演旦角的,却十分崇拜周信芳的表演艺术,因而其表演艺术既得麒派之真髓又兼有程派之浑厚,荀派之清爽。
