《普通高中英语课程标准》(实验)明确提出:高中英语课应据学生认知特点与学习发展需要,在进一步增强学生语言应用能力同时,着重培养学生用英语获取信息、处理信息、分析和解决问题能力。培养英语阅读能力,归根结底就是突出其主体地位,尊重其个体发展,尤其是培养学生从单一获取信息过程转向信息加工能力。其阅读教学流程主要的步骤是:教师先教新单词;教师请几位学生读课文,听一通课文录音;:教师逐词逐句讲解,特别是词汇,短语用法;学生再读一遍课文,然后总结所学知识。但是,这种传统的阅读教学模式在新课标的教学内容和教学目标下逐渐显示出了很多的不适应,需要进行相应的改革。
