One day, a black bear pushes a barrow(2) in the forest. He calls,
“Exchange eggs! I will exchange my rice for eggs.”
A fox comes out of her house. And she opens his bag and looks at the rice. “Ah, good rice. How would you exchange it?” she asks.
“I’d like to exchange the bag of rice for a basketful of eggs,” the black bear answers.
“OK! Please wait a minute. I’ll get my eggs.” The fox comes into her house.
But the bear is a little worried(3) now. He tells himself, “I hear that the fox is very cunning(4) and she likes telling lies(5) and cheats others. I must be careful.”
The fox comes out again with a basketful of eggs. But some of the eggs are very big, bigger than the muskmelons(6). And some are very small, smaller than the walnuts(7).
Looking at them, the bear is puzzled(8).
“The big eggs are from the big hens and the small ones are from small hens. Don’t feel strange,” she says.
“Yes, it isn’t strange. But...”
“It seems that you don’t believe me. Do I look like a swindler(9)?” she says with a smile.
“OK! It’s a deal(10).”
At last the bear comes back home with a basketful of eggs. He puts them on thebedtohatch(11)thechickens, because he wants to have a chicken farm.
A wonder(12) happens.
On the first day, 30 little tortoises(13) hatch out and they swim into the creek. On the second day, 60 little snakes hatch out and they crawl into the grass. On the third day, 90 little crocodiles(14) hatch out and they
jump into the river. On the fourth day, the last and biggest egg splits(15) and a little ostrich(16) walks out. He says to the black bear, “Hi! Please go to the desert(17) and visit me when you have time. Bye! ”
Looking at the empty eggs, the bear shakes his head with a pale(18) smile.
