Han Ssong, a science fiction writer, once wrote a novel called “Subway,” in which he describes the subway as an underground space of darkness, steel, and wire. And imagine all sorts of bizarre events, such as the train that runs all the way through the sky, the future humans who hang out on the ground with mice, and the last bus that captives passengers like the Auschwitz concentration camp. At the same time, it is ironic that the book also contains an attached “Guide to Emergency Accidents in the Metro Accident” that seems to be deliberately emphasizing the authenticity of the novel. However, in fact, the reason why the author exaggerated the plot gives readers a sense of place is precisely because we lack sufficient understanding of the MTR, even if it satisfies the everyday travel of tens of millions of people every day.
