老西开即今和平区教堂一带,一九一六年在这里爆发了轰轰烈烈的反帝爱国运动。早在1914年,法帝国主义在西墙子河以外,侵占荒地,建起天主教堂。并在教堂附近建立法汉学校和西开学校,并派巡捕在老西开站岗,无形中把这块地带划入法租界管区。由于人民群众对法帝的侵略激烈反对,卖国的北洋政府只得也派出几名警察在老西开站岗,以敷衍民意。出现了双重岗哨的怪现象。
Lao Xikai is now the area of peace church. In 1916 there was a vigorous anti-imperialist patriotic movement broke out here. As early as 1914, French imperialism occupied the waste land and built a Catholic church outside the Western Wall River.
