吕陶,字元钧,号净德,四川成都(今四川成都市)人。生活在北宋中后期,历仕仁、英、神、哲、徽五朝,仕宦经历长达五十余年之久。由于他与苏轼、苏辙同系蜀籍,且政治观点颇为相近,遂在元祐年间的“洛蜀党争”中,被视为蜀党副魁,因此对吕陶的研究,也有助于对北宋后期党争这段扑朔迷离的历史的深入研究。
