朝阳是东北地区最早响应北京五四爱国运动的城市之一。 以青年学生为主体的朝阳各界民众,不顾当局的限制和阻挠,于1919年6月13日在朝阳城内佑顺寺前召开了空前规模的群众大会。学生及各界代表在会上发表了慷慨激昂的演说,热情赞扬了北京青年学生的崇高爱国精神,声讨了帝国主义的野蛮行径。会场内群情激愤,“反对帝国主义侵略”“打倒帝国主义”“抵制日货”
Chaoyang is one of the earliest cities in northeast China to respond to the May 4th patriotic movement in Beijing. Regardless of the restrictions and obstructions of the authorities, the masses of people from all walks of life, mainly composed of young students, held an unprecedented mass meeting in front of the Yushun Monastery in Chaoyang City on June 13, 1919. Students and representatives from all walks of life delivered an impassioned speech at the meeting. They warmly praised the noble patriotism of Beijing’s young students and denounced the barbaric act of imperialism. In the meeting place, people were indignant, “opposing the imperialist aggression,” “overthrowing imperialism,” “boycotting Japanese goods.”
