This year’s Beijing International Photo Biennial is based around the theme of “unfamiliar Asia.” This year, we selected from China, India, Japan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh, Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon and South Korea. Photographers from different countries and regions in Asia exhibited their works. The exhibition views Asia through photographic representations, and then considers Asia and rediscovers Asia in order to have a better vision of Asia in the future. The origins of world civilization once occurred and flowed down in this vast geographical continent. The three major religions are also the origin and the change here. The turbulent movement that has experienced history and reality, and their “unfamiliar Asia” have become complicated and confusing, Its fusion makes itself more uncertain. How did photography intervene as an important visual medium in this process of fusion, and how can photography embark on a deeper reflection and exploration in this process and a rich visual field?
