In today’s world, great powers and small and weak countries are all planning ambitious plans for their future survival and development. New Zealand, located in the South Pacific, is no exception. In order to safeguard its maritime rights and interests, New Zealand has developed a Protector Plan to prepare a future New Zealand naval fleet capable of safeguarding the sovereignty and safeguarding the country’s maritime rights and interests. Protector Program Overview The Protector Program is designed to fill the competency gap identified in the New Zealand Review of Maritime Power in 2002 and to make up for the vacancy caused in 2005 by the retirement of the Cantelean class Levant class frigate.
