新兴版画是绘画的一种体裁、样式,是有些人眼中的一个小画种。孰不知正是这个小画种在中国现代美术史上做出了突出的历史贡献。我们既然将其称为新兴版画,当然是为了区分它与古代版画的不同。古代版画基本上是复制版画,画的作者与刻的作者不是同一个人;新兴版画则是创作版画,从作画到制作都是作者亲自完成的。从内容上看,新兴版画从它诞生的时候起,就受到普罗美术思潮的洗礼,倾向性明显,同情劳苦大众, 表现劳苦大众的生活。
