苏棉12号（原名太193）系江苏省太仓市棉花原种场以（8004×冀合328）F1×9101杂交于1990年选育而成。1997年4月通过江苏省农作物品种审定委员会审定定名，是江苏省“九五”农业科技重大攻关项目棉花育种课题中第一个审定的品种，同时也是农业部“发展棉花生产专项资金”新品种
Su cotton on the 12th (formerly too 193) Taicang City, Jiangsu Province, the original cotton field to (8004 × Ji Hop 328) F1 × 9101 hybrid in 1990 bred. In April 1997, it was approved by Jiangsu Province Crop Variety Approval Committee and was the first validated variety in the cotton breeding project of the Ninth Five-Year Plan of Agricultural Science and Technology in Jiangsu Province. It is also the new variety of “Special Fund for Developing Cotton Production” issued by the Ministry of Agriculture
