Iron Ore The Erzko iron deposit in Styria, Austria, is Europe’s most important siderite deposit, which for centuries has provided plentiful manganese-rich iron ore for the steel industry in Styria. Calculated according to the current production capacity, ore production is expected to continue until 2035. The mine is owned by Vest Alps. Ore bodies occur in the Paleozoic complex sandstone belt. The lower plate is metamorphic quartz porphyry with clay, quartz and graphite intercalations, and calcareous shale under it. The lower strata are Silurian and Devonian limestones while the upper strata are lower carboniferous
