A study by researchers at Yale University in the United States found that seniors who are negatively impacted by old age may experience decreased hearing loss more quickly. This shows that stereotypes about age may affect the senses of the elderly themselves, and those who “refuse to accept the old” are not easy to get old. These conclusions are based on the study data of 546 elderly people. To determine whether subjects have negative stereotypes about aging, researchers asked them to state the five words they had in their minds when it came to the elderly. Words such as “sympathetic” and “always elegant” are considered positive, while terms like “humpback” “weakness” and “old age” are considered as negative prejudices.
