前几天,新颖送来他刚译好的《人之子——耶稣传》书稿。这就是一年多以前,我送给他的那本德国现代戏剧家和传记文学家艾米尔·路德维希的《耶稣传》英文本的新译。这本传记,本来早在三十年代的中期,就有孙徇侯的译本,从英文转译。孙徇侯是我同时代的留日学生,好像当时在明治大学的法科经济系学习。但我一向认为,翻译是一种再创造的文学活动,译本的质量往往取决于译者的文学和语言素养,以及时原作的理解和判断程度,因之,总是有它的成就与不足之处;
