八十年代末,我花了两年多时间创作出了首钢十年改革的长篇报告文学《周冠五与首钢》之后,就再也不打算写企业了。个中原因颇为复杂,但有一点可以坦然相告,我要集中时间和精力去写我深深热爱的青藏高原。这次卫汉青社长要我为北大方正集团董事长魏新教授写点文字,开始我犹豫再三。后来我看了魏新在方正集团的几次讲话材料,其中有个细节触动了我的创作欲望,决定要写他。是的,仅仅是个细节。这个细节就是魏新给方正集团高级管理人员推荐的一本书,书名《基业长青》。这本书是两位管理学专家詹姆斯·柯林斯与杰里·波拉斯合著。他们对世界上18家卓越非儿的公司及其竞争对手进行调查研究、对照分析,历时6年写成。
In the late 1980s, after spending more than two years in creating the long-form reportage entitled “Zhou Guanwu and Shougang” during the ten-year reform of Shougang, I did not intend to write a business anymore. The reason is quite complex, but one thing I can honestly say, I want to concentrate on time and energy to write my deeply loved Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. This time, Wei Hanqing president asked me to write a letter for Professor Wei Xin, chairman of Founder Group, and started to hesitate. Later, I read a few remarks made by Wei Xin at Founder Group. They conducted research on 18 of the world's best and brightest companies and their competitors and conducted a comparative analysis that took six years to write.
