按照习惯，新世纪开始的头件事便是检讨过去，规划未来．一个有责任心的人不会否认艺术界的现状有检讨的必要．我们组织了这次有关当下艺术现状的笔谈，便是基于这样一个朴素的愿望；新世纪美术的发展应该有一个良好的开端．这组短文的作者来自不同地域、不同领域，知识结构及文化身份的差异使他们具有不同的立场与阐释问题的角度，甚至彼此互为“矛”与“盾”的关系．文字的优势在于它能将口头争论的抵触情绪，多多少少冷却成一种要求平和交流的理性。或许这组文字能够满足读者未被道出的言说期特；但愿它担供的当下景观使你看得更为清晰，而不是越发模糊。
According to the custom, the first thing started in the new century is to review the past and plan for the future. A responsible person will not deny the necessity of a review of the status quo in the art world. We have organized this writing on the current state of the art. It is based on such a simple desire that the development of fine arts in the new century should have a good start. The author of this group of essays comes from different regions, different fields, differences in knowledge structure and cultural identities so that they have different positions and explanations. They even have the relationship of “spear” and “shield” with each other. The advantage of writing is that it can cool the resistance of an oral argument more or less into a rational that calls for peaceful communication. Perhaps this set of texts will satisfy the unremarkable language of the reader; let us suppose that the current landscape it serves makes you clearer, not less obscure.
