Overseas Flower (1952) is the first Chinese female autobiographical work in the United Kingdom. It vividly depicts the life experiences of a Chinese intellectual family after moving to England in the 1930s and the years of turmoil during World War II. The author Cai Dai-mei is a family woman. After she completed the Chinese manuscript, she was translated into English by the writer’s husband, Bear Xiong, and helped publish.
