梅原产我国南方,已有三千多年的栽培历史。梅花姿态优美,古朴典雅,花色俏丽,清香馥郁,品格高洁,傲雪而开,素为我国人民所喜爱,常用来开辟专园供游览观赏,即在山巅、水滨、坡地、溪畔大片栽植,取名梅园、梅溪、梅岭等。在庭院中,常辟一隅,与松、竹混植,体现“岁寒三友”的佳境。梅的品种分果梅和花梅两大类。花梅的品种由于长期栽培,变异较大,品种甚多,主要包括直脚梅类(枝条直立或斜展,花色与花型多样)、照水
