傣族佛寺壁画,是云南民族区域具有代表性和典型意义的少数民族美术样式,其内容十分丰富。笔者曾多次游历于西双版纳、德宏一带,先后深入到景洪、勐海、勐腊、芒市、瑞丽以及澜沧、孟连、景谷等县的傣族居住区,对其壁画艺术进行了学习和考察。每当步入一村一寨,引人注目的便是那村寨中最显赫最漂亮的寺庙建筑及其墙面上的一幅幅壁画。众所周知,傣族的传统建筑是高脚干阑式竹楼,这种建筑形式的一大特点是没有墙壁,因此,既使是过去土司头人的宫殿,在装饰方面大多也只是在梁柱上雕
