“Your wisdom and your work will live forever in the memory of the Russian people ...” These words are engraved on the tombstone of Grievous Yeddolf in Tirbis. It is like a prophecy because Griff-Yadov’s literary heritage, and especially his masterpiece “The Pain of Wisdom,” is still cherished by the Soviet people as an invaluable treasure in Russian national culture. Grievousadye Dorf’s outlook on life was formed in the context of the Russian events of the early nineteenth century in close connection with the most progressive social forces of the time. The years of patriotic war and the December party revolution - which took place at the time of the life of Gregory Baoyedov - played a decisive influence on the poet’s knowledge and artistic development.
