In order to investigate the characteristics and regularities of deaths in the emergency department, we conducted a retrospective analysis of the deaths in our emergency department from 1990 to 1998. 1 Clinical data This group of data comes from the emergency department in our hospital between January 1990 and December 1998. All cases included emergency department visits. The cause of death was classified according to the ICD-9 International Classification of Diseases. 2 Results 2.1. Causes of death 5 027 deaths in this group
