Xu Yong 煐, native of Jiangxi Longnan County. He participated in the patriotic student movement during his student life. In 1925 went to the United States to study, joined the United States Communist Party, served as secretary of the United States and China Bureau, leading the left-wing movement of overseas Chinese in the United States for 20 years. During preparations for the United Nations’ preparations in 1945, he assisted Dong Biwu and others attending the conference. After returning to China in the summer of 1946, he served successively as the Director of the Compilation and Translation Division of the Foreign Affairs Section of the CPC Central Committee (later renamed the International Propaganda Department), the Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Shanghai Military Management Commission, the Deputy Director of the Counseling Section of the East China Military and Political Committee, and the Propaganda Department English translation Mao election committee director.
