1904年3月11日《东方杂志》由商务印书馆创刊。到1948年底终刊,共历45年之久,基本上伴随了20世纪上半叶的中国社会历程,被学术界认为是旧中国期刊界寿命最长的综合性杂志。《东方杂志》所蕴含的思想资源与学术价值在其存在期间就已被众多研究者所肯定和注目。如1926年著名报人戈公振就在其作品《中国报学史》中盛赞《东方杂志》是“杂志中时期最长而最努力者”~([1])。1931年,邢云霖在《中国杂志史简述》中也强调《东方杂志》“于
March 11, 1904 Oriental Magazine was started by the Commercial Press. By the end of 1948, the final issue, which lasted for 45 years, basically followed the Chinese social history in the first half of the 20th century and was considered by academic circles to be the longest comprehensive journal in the old Chinese journals. The thought resources and academic values contained in Oriental Magazine have been recognized and noted by many researchers during its existence. For example, in 1926, Ge Gongzhen, a famous newspaper reporter, praised Oriental Magazine as the longest and hardest-working journalist in his work The History of Chinese Newspapers. In 1931, Xing Yunlin also stressed in ”Brief History of Chinese Magazine“ that ”Oriental Magazine"
