Chaoshan region is the forefront of China’s coastal defense, Guangdong Dongdaemun, near Taiwan. As one of the hubs for smuggling in southern China, the Japanese warlords constantly encouraged rogue Taiwanese and unscrupulous merchants to smuggle Taiwan’s rice into Shantou and collected local military and economic intelligence to frequently create incidents in an attempt to provoke a comprehensive war of aggression against China.
