The numerical solution to the Maxwell’s equations for the earth model with a reasonable conduction path shows that the electric field value increases only within a certain region (ie, above the end of the channel), thus explaining the observed selectivity effect. Within this range, the value of the magnetic field remains low (10 -2 (nT)) although the value of the electric field may reach the value detectable by the instrument (5-10 mV / km). These results are consistent with the results recently obtained by the analytical solution (Varotsos, et al., 1998). Using numerical and analytical solutions can be very natural to explain the △ V / L ≈ constant of this criterion. However, this criterion should not be applied to areas with extremely uneven electrical structure.
