新闻舆论监督是新闻媒介的基本功能之一。 现代社会作为一个整体,具有一个完整的控制系统。各个子系统之间既要相互配合相互协调,又要相互制约相互监督。新闻媒介在这个系统中同样也发挥着这两方面的作用。特别是在我国建立和完善社会主义民主制度的过程中,由计划经济体制向社会主义市场经济体制转轨时期,尤其需要新闻媒介发挥好舆论监督作用。在社会转型期,是权力和利益再分配和再调整的过程,各种社会矛盾和社会问题会明显地凸现出来,消极腐败现象、社会丑恶现象也会有不同程度的表现,有时甚至相当严重。
