当病毒等损伤因素引起细胞损伤或癌变时,将诱导受损细胞及癌变细胞表面表达 Fas 及 Fas L 增加.在同一细胞表面过度表达的 Fas 和 FasL 可互相结合而启动细胞凋亡,发生细胞自杀(suicide),或相邻的两个细胞间的 FasL 与 Fas 结合而诱导细胞凋亡,发生同胞相杀(fratricide).表达于 T 淋巴细胞表面的 FasL 也可与受损及癌变细胞表面的 Fas 结合,而引起该细胞的凋亡,从而对机体起到免疫监视作用.这个过程常被认为是机体为维护自身的稳定性的一种自我保护机制.如果
