刚到美国时,哈佛大学组织我们去波士顿市政厅参加活动。我带了一个黑书包,在酒会开始之前,就随手把书包放在客厅的石柱旁。可一会儿功夫就引来了几名便衣警察,他们手握探测仪上下晃动,我连忙解释这不过是我的一个普普通通的书包罢了,警察们才怏怏离去。我对这种“小题大做”很不理解,但在其他美国人看来,这种举动很正常——谁敢保证那些在公众场合放置的无人认领的箱包不是恐怖分子的阴谋?
When I first arrived in the United States, Harvard organized us to go to Boston City Hall for the event. I brought a black school bag and put it on the stone columns in the living room before I started the reception. Kung Fu, for a while, drew a few plainclothes police officers, shaking their hands up and down the detector, and I quickly explained that it was nothing more than an ordinary schoolbag of mine, and the police left without success. I do not understand this “fuss,” but in the eyes of other Americans, this is normal - who can guarantee that unclaimed luggage, placed in public, is not a terrorist plot?
