In this paper, from the perspective of institutional evolution, through the case study of foot-binding in China, the most ugly custom, we dig out the new connotation of understanding customs and norms. First of all, this article points out the conditions for the formation of custom, that is, any custom must have a stochastic and stable nature in social interaction. Secondly, this paper discusses the ultra-stability of the foot-binding practice and points out the basic reason for this stability. Thirdly, this paper points out that the reason why the practice of dissipating foot-binding is dissipated is not mainly the criticism of the New Culture Movement nor the government’s compulsion but the significant change in the payment resulting from the original game of stochastic stability, leading to stochastic stability The nuclear solution. Finally, this paper gives the main conclusions of this case analysis: In the long run, the norms such as customs are symbiotic with the socio-economic conditions that formed it.
