鄂荆92(原为3292)是荆州地区农科所以“3208”作母本、荆棉4号作父本进行杂交,于1978年选育而成。1983年9月,由湖北省科委、省农牧业厅联合主持鉴定正式命名。1982年至1983年,该品种在我场(地势低洼,地下水位较高,土质中壤)进行了连续两年试验示范。这两年气候极不正常。如4～10月份气温较常年分别低0.3℃和0.2℃,降雨量分别少71.5毫米和多709.7毫
