魏源(1794~1857年)原名远达,字黔深,又字汉士。清乾隆59年,生于湖南邵阳(今隆回县)金潭乡。 魏源小时私塾读书,勤奋好学。9岁应童子试,县令某公于喝茶时,指茶杯中画的太极图说:“杯中含太极”为上联,要魏源对出下联,贫寒考生魏源胸怀两个风餐麦饼,他即应声对答:“腹内孕乾坤”,面试人员大惊其异才。 1822年魏源以第2名成绩考中举人。1825年做江苏布政使贺长龄的部下,代辑《皇朝经世文编》,开始注重对社会经济的研究,曾随江苏
Wei Yuan (1794 - 1857) was originally called Yuan Da, and his character was deep and he also called Han Shi.
