Currently there is a formal test plan for the technology needed to detect gravitational waves. The European Space Agency’s Laser Interferometric Space Antenna Detector is conducting a series of experiments about 1.5 million meters from Earth. Of course, this plan attracted a great deal of attention because, in September 2015, the Earth Observatory first detected “ripples in the universe” - the gravitational waves. LPF’s demonstration, if successful, will pave the way for a fully functional space gravitational wave observatory scheduled to launch in 2034
