New Zealand: New Zealand is moving towards a major timber trading nation, reducing its lumber business. In some months of this year, this trend is accelerating. In the first half of 2014, the export of sawn timber in New Zealand decreased by 14% year-on-year to 843.29 million m 3, according to the report of “Random Lengths International” by the timber industry media. Log exports decreased 1% in the first quarter of this year, but rebounded 24% in the second quarter. From 2007 to 2012 sawn timber exports fluctuated from 1.78 million to 2.11 million m 2, while the export of logs increased more than 3 times during the same period. Sales of logs have been increasing for 8 consecutive years, from 5,190,000 m 3 to 16,600 m 3 in 2013.
