Agricultural production in Cangzhou basically sustained a steady growth during the “6th Five-Year Plan” period. In 1986, the total output value of agriculture in the region amounted to 1.446 billion yuan, up by 15.3% over the “Sixth Five-Year Plan” period and up 4.9% over the previous year. The output value of township and village enterprises reached 1.97 billion yuan, an increase of 28% over the previous year. Per capita income of farmers was 397 yuan, an increase of 12% over the previous year and an increase of 151% over 1980. The issue of adequate food and clothing for peasants in the region has been basically solved, and some peasants took the lead in getting rich.
