古文中有一些常见的句型.研究这些句型和这些句型的英语表达方式,对理解古汉语乃至现代汉语和英语都很有帮助,对提高英语写作的能力就更不待言了.下面是一些古文惯用句型的译法.一、……者,也……这是一个典型的判断句型.主语后面的语气助词“者”表示停顿,起强调或舒缓语气的作用;“也”字置于谓语之后表示肯定的判断.这种句型有其他变体,如省去“者”的“……也”、省去“也”的“……者,……”、有两者皆省去的“……,……”,有“者”字起称代作用与“也”同用于句末的“……者也”,还有用“耳”代替“也”表示其他语气的句式.“者”、“也、“耳”在英语中没有特定的词语对译,整个句型英译时大多要增加联系动词.如:
