宋长江的短篇小说《谁家有小孩呀赶快出来玩啊》细致地刻画出主人公老固从住平房到居高楼的心理嬗变历程:住平房时对高楼生活充满了向往,搬进高楼后心里有了短暂的满足感,后来渐渐地不适应,到最后萌发出些许的怀疑与空虚。随着城市化进程的不断加速,底层人民纷纷迁入城市,住进了高楼大厦,但是,这种从住平房到居高楼的空间位移并没有真正改变他们的底层身份,也无法从根本上消除他们的心理矛盾与身份焦虑,他们的内心逐渐陷入城乡的矛盾和对峙的纠结之中,作者深刻地揭示出中国当下某种不可回避的现实图景。
