These two poems, both in terms of content and style are completely different. But the two are closely linked together to a large extent. 1916 is a watershed in Yeats’ love life, the starting point for a change in attitude toward the ultimate leader of the Irish Independence Movement, and the dividing line between the theme of creation and the style of poetry.
