SD rats were fed with synthetic diets containing cholesterol (1%) and bile salts (0.25%) for 12 weeks to induce hypercholesterolemia. At the same time, konjac flour containing 84.8% glucomannan was added. Three experimental groups Addition amount accounted for feed weight were 2.5,5.0,10.0%, observed to reduce serum and hepatic cholesterol. Enzymatic determination of cholesterol content and liver histopathological examination results showed that konjac polysaccharides in rats fed high cholesterol feed has a significant cholesterol-lowering effect, adding 5.0% feeding four weeks that a significant effect, 12 weeks reduced to Normal group level. Liver histological examination showed significant anti-lipoidal effects and no adverse effects on the absorption and utilization of Ca, Fe, Zn and Cu.
