To investigate whether extracranial glioblastoma growth can be transferred and the effect of CD44v on their metastatic ability. Using a gene transfection technique, a vector expressing spontaneously CD44v (meta-1) was introduced into rat glioma RG2 cells with low metastasis, and a systematic metastatic observation of RG2 cells with or without CD44v expression was performed. As a result, it was found that the growth and morphological characteristics of the transfectant RG2-a of CD44v were not significantly changed compared with maternal RG2 cells (RG2-m) without CD44v expression; however, RG2-a metastasized in tumor-bearing rats. The time of appearance was obviously advanced. In the unit time, the number of affected organs increased and the degree of destruction was even more serious. The results of the study confirmed that extracranial glioblastoma cells have the ability to spontaneously metastasize, and CD44v can significantly increase the metastasis efficiency of RG2 cells. CD44v plays an important role in tumor growth and proliferation as a metastasis promoting factor
