Objective To understand the prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of osteoporosis (OP) in Wuwei City, Gansu Province, and provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of OP in Wuwei City. Methods According to the population of 1.92 million people in Wuwei City in 2011, combining with the geographical distribution, regional economic conditions and living characteristics of Wuwei City, two representative districts (Liangzhou District and Minqin County) Stratification and stochastic principle, we randomly selected the natural population aged 5 to 5 years and 30 to 80 years old in the area as the survey subjects to conduct the survey of bone metabolism status. In the rural areas, the natural village household was the smallest survey unit and the urban community community was Investigation unit. Results The prevalence of OP in male population in this area was significantly higher than that in the same age group, which might be related to the heavy drinking and smoking in men. The prevalence rate of OP in women aged 50 and 60 was significantly higher than that of men in the same age group (P <0.05), and was significantly higher in women than in men after 50 years of age Hormonal disorders caused by a large number of bone loss related; and in the 30-year-old and 70-year-old age group, male and female OP prevalence was no significant difference between the two groups (P> 0.05). The overall incidence of women was significantly higher than men, and women related to specific physical factors. This result is of guiding significance for the effective prevention and treatment of OP and is worthy of clinical application and promotion.
