According to a February 1 issue of the Financial Times, the United Kingdom will, starting from February 1, request the Cayman Islands to abandon its firm opposition to the implementation of the EU Savings Directive and to comply with the EU’s measures to combat tax evasion. This EU regulation aims to impose cross-border interest tax on EU citizens from 2005 onwards. Singapore is expected to be the biggest winner of the directive.
