“Moral Scriptures” is an important classic of the overseas understanding of Lao Tzu and Chinese culture. British sinologists made important contributions to the English translation of Tao Te Ching and the study of Confucianism in the West. However, their translations have obvious tendency of Christianization due to their identity characteristics and the ideological orientation of Christian thought. Cultural distortion of translation. Taking the translations of Cham John, James Legge, and Willie as examples, this paper introduces the publication history of their translations and analyzes the Christianization tendencies of their translations from the perspective of translators’ identity and translation strategies. Re-interpretation of the role of reference.
