Objective: To understand the influence of plateau hypoxic environment on testosterone (T) and estradiol (E2) in male and explore the relationship between sex hormone and plateau hypoxia. Methods: Serum testosterone (T) and estradiol (E2) concentrations in 666 normal Han men of different ages in the plain and Lhasa (3 658 m above sea level) from the plain were measured by radioimmunoassay. Results: The T (564.60 ± 248.04) ng / dL and E2 were (19.88 ± 10.04) pg / mL and T (724.31 ± 231.26) ng / dL and 36.71 ± (P <0.001). The T values were (680.20 ± 140.38) ng / dL and (894.66 ±) respectively at 10 ~ <10 and 10 ~ 259.73) ng / dL and E2 were (25.28 ± 15.70) pg / mL and (40.00 ± 9.88) pg / mL, respectively, which were also significantly higher than those in the previous year (P <0.01, P <0.001) (P <0.05). Compared with the plain group, the T and E2 levels in the range of 10 ~ <20 years were significant (P <0.05) (31.66 ± 11.23) pg / mL and (19.41 ± 8.94) pg / mL, respectively, showed a decreasing trend compared with the control group (524.78 ± 118.26 ng / dL and ng / dL, The difference was significant (P <0.05, P <0.001). The results showed that in the hypoxia environment, the levels of T and E2 decreased compared with those in the plains, and increased with the prolongation of residence time. When the residence time exceeded 20 years, the hormone levels showed a downward trend. CONCLUSIONS: Hypoxia at the plateau is the cause of changes in testosterone and estradiol levels. The difference in sex hormone levels among men is an adaptive and compensatory change.
