美语俚语的构成有其独一无二的特点。“五月花”号将英语俚语带到了美国。俚语在一个新修饰的环境中、一个常年充满创新热情的人类文化环境中继续生根发芽。俚语源自各行各业的职业人群和亚文化术语,或是暗讽的语言。实际上,只有在特定的用法被广泛使用,才会出现英语的变形。俚语曾经被视为“粗俗”的语言。如今,在英国和美国,俚语的普及程度远远超过了语言学家的预料。俚语经常出现在电影、文学作品、报纸和杂志中。在日常生活中,大量受过高等教育的人也使用俚语进行交流。从嬉皮士到雅皮士都有其各自的一套俚语。保守的中产阶级也说俚语,表达对政客的批评以树立“人民至上”的形象,而且有的场合也需要使用俚语。各个阶层的英裔美国人都普遍地使用俚语,主要是因为俚语呼吁和增强语气的极致表现。从俚语的意义、语源以及人们对俚语的态度三个方面来分析俚语发展的历史,以加深人们对于俚语、俚语的社会功能及其流行原因的理解。
The composition of American slang has its own unique characteristics. “Mayflower ” English slang brought to the United States. Slang in a newly decorated environment, a perennial year full of passion for innovation and cultural environment continue to take root. Slang is derived from occupations and sub-cultural terms in all walks of life, or satirical language. In fact, only in a particular usage is widely used, English distortion will occur. Slang was once considered a “vulgar” language. Nowadays, the popularity of slang in the United Kingdom and the United States far exceeds the expectations of linguists. Slang often appears in movies, literature, newspapers and magazines. In everyday life, a large number of highly educated people also use slang to communicate. From hippies to yuppies have their own set of slang. The conservative middle class also speaks slang, expresses its criticism of politicians to establish a “people first” image, and in some cases slang is also required. Slang is commonly used by Anglo-Americans of all walks of life mainly because of the slang appeal and the ultimate expression of tone. This article analyzes the history of slang development from three aspects: the meaning of slang, the source and the attitude towards slang, so as to deepen people ’s understanding of the social function of slang and slang and their causes.
