In order to simplify complicated customs clearance procedures, the Western Group of Seven countries plans to unify the import and export declaration form standards and formats by 2005, and will reach an agreement in July at the summit meeting held in Okinawa, Japan. Because the declaration standards and documents for customs clearance vary from country to country, in the future, they must be unified as a common format for all countries. The items on the application form should also be reduced to 1/6 or less, totaling about 120 items. Electronic information exchange standards that use the Internet to exchange transaction information must also be unified. Trade procedures
