曹雪芹对魏晋名士之生命的本质意义有深入的理解和体悟,故在《红楼梦》里着意塑造了贾宝玉之典型的名士人格。宝玉的名士人格主要表现在四个方面:宝玉背离世俗的常规常矩,不守礼法,任情放荡;宝玉是情痴情种,魏晋名士所谓“情之所钟,正在我辈”;宝玉有卓异才情,表现出艺术的情趣,有超越俗智之上的玄思玄智,体现了艺术境界与智悟境界的融合;宝玉在读书仕宦上无所成就,其人生是虚无荒凉的,是人间的弃才。
