近年来,随着南京大屠杀死难者国家公祭日、中国人民抗日战争胜利纪念日和中国烈士纪念日的设立与实施,社会各界对于南京保卫战中牺牲的将军一事,给予了更多的关注。牺牲的将军,乃是牺牲军人群体的代表与象征,因为具有将军衔者的军职,均应在师、旅长以上,他们的牺牲,可以从一个侧面,说明战事的惨烈与牺牲人数之众多。因此,弄清楚在南京保卫战一役中,究竟牺牲了多少名将军,实有其重要意义。
