The sputtering method of depositing corrosion-resistant amorphous Fe-Cr and Ni-Cr alloys onto non-corrosion-resistant substrates has been successfully tested by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest Laboratory. This coating can be used in seawater, geothermal wells and other high chloride liquid corrosion of the environment, and in this environment ordinary crystal stainless steel will produce pitting and local corrosion.
