从Grammar of Contemporary English到Comprehensive Grammar ofThe English Language,历时13年,其间夸克等四位学者对英语的发展与变化从理论与实践上作了重要阐述与总结,对指导英语实践具有重大意义;同时国内外专家学者对此也产生了共鸣,从这两本专著问世以来继承与发展了英语语法中的某些重要理论,在英语界产生了很大的影响,一些新的确实可行的语言现象正在为人们所接受。遗憾的是在我国大中学校英语教学中仍然墨守陈规,对夸克等学者所研究的新成果,对英美人所喜闻乐见、普遍运用的生动活泼的新语言向学生传授不多,一味注重规范性,而忽视了语言的变化和知识的更新,这种倾向应该引起注意,不能继续下去。

Some new and practicable linguistic phenomena are underway for People accept it. Regrettably, we still cling to stereotypes in the English teaching of middle and high schools in our country. The new achievements studied by scholars such as Quark and the new and vivid new languages commonly used by the British and the Americans do not teach much to the students. Ignoring the change of language and the updating of knowledge, this tendency should attract attention and can not be continued.
