Click-cut tools are increasingly being used as cutting elements for roadheading units and this article summarizes the recent results of the British Institute of Mining’s recent study on the rock cutting properties of this tool. What can be compared on cutting is that the sharp click tool requires more force than the sharp wedge tool, but the opposite is true after both types of tool wear. The deeper all the cutting tools, the more efficient they are. In laboratory tests, click-to-cut tools generate more dust and increase the potential for gas ignition. Click-to-cut tools may be more durable, as long as the performance of the rotation in the fixture can be achieved, the rotation can make uniform wear, but not “spin sharpening.” Click-type and wedge-shaped tool two fracture potential is almost the same.
